Description Edit

"OK-OK", based entirely on Charlie Parker's solo from "Ko-Ko." The entire piece consists of *nothing* but Bird's solo, in the original pitch order, but recontextualized and reconfigured to become something else entirely. It's a sort of deconstruction and reconstruction of the solo, with the last phrase of his solo finally appearing in its original form in the last measures of my piece.

OK-OK was commissioned by the Fromm Foundation for the Radnofsky Quartet (Boston) as part of a special grant to Composers in Red Sneakers. The recording here is by The Frost Sax Quartet at the University of Miami School of Music, on the "Sixth Species" CD (Albany Records, 2008).
